Balancing cost and efficiency for a guaranteed LCOE reduction

In recent years, the industry has been chasing higher and higher efficiency, and lower production costs. However, with current cell technologies, efficiency-boosting innovations are increasingly hard to come by. This is leading the industry to focus on other ways to improve module efficiency and lower project investment.

In this pv magazine Webinar with initiative partner Seraphim, we are going to discuss balancing module efficiency and cost. We have invited Terry Jin, Technical Director at Seraphim Solar, to talk about the optical and electrical advantages of 9 busbar cells, reduced shading, mismatch loss, and bifacial power gains in Seraphim’s newest product.

With new data, Jin will demonstrate how these improvements increase module power outputs and how the CAPEX of solar projects, as well as the LCOE, will decrease markedly.

Through flexible application demonstrations and operation simulations in varied locations like Europe, Asia, and the Americas this pv magazine webinar will illustrate the potential for these module-level innovations to positively impact LCOE.

As our second guest we invited Pedro Magalhães, Director Global Engineering and R&D at Arctech Solar to share their practical experience in using Seraphim’s new module in combination with their tracker. He will discuss how their tracker relies on three fixed points for increased stability. Magalhães will also illustrate how the tracker’s built-in artificial intelligence controller can boost overall power generation, maximizing energy output at the PV plant level.

Join this pv magazine Webinar to learn how to balance efficiency and cost as well as improve energy yield at system level.

Content:

  • How can you balance increases in both cost and efficiency?
  • Discussion of new findings on the improvement of module power output
  • How the right combination of module and tracker can improve energy yield

Questions can be submitted beforehand or during the webinar through a chat window. Mark Hutchins, Global editor at pv magazine, will be the moderator of this pv magazine Webinar.

Speakers

Pedro Magalhães, Director Global Engineering and R&D, Arctech Solar

Pedro HSV Magalhães started his PV career in Madrid, Spain, back in 2003, designing and engineering trackers for Concentration PV. When PV was transitioning from the laboratory to a mass industry, Pedro moved to the USA and had the opportunity to deploy tracker solutions in the ever-growing PV market. His career spans over several facets of the industry, from product development of PV components, plant engineering to business development of EPC services. Pedro has a deep understanding of PV tracker technology and what it takes to design a reliable product that will last for decades out in the field. His first tracker specific wind tunnel test was done together with CPP in 2009. Pedro published several tracker specific scientific papers and co-authored the trackers chapter of the CPV Handbook by Wiley. After graduating in mechanical engineering in his hometown of Porto, Portugal Pedro completed a MsC in PV Engineering in Madrid, Spain. Currently Pedro is the Director of Global Engineering and R&D at Arctech Solar, where he heads tracker product development and works with owners, developers and EPCs deploying PV in 4 continents.

Terry Jin, Technical Director, Seraphim Solar

Terry Jin is the Technical Director of Seraphim Solar, who has many years of experience in PV technology development, products R&D and application, etc. He is the leader of the R&D Department and his team owns hundreds of intellectual property rights and patents. In order to meet the different needs of customers and market changes, he took the lead in designing and developing a rich portfolio of tailor-made products. He also took charge in the designing and building of the first grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system in Changzhou. Prior to joining Seraphim, he worked at Applied Materials and JA solar.
